Cost of living increases.
Rent/Mortgage go up annually.
Ever week to two weeks the paycheck looks the same.
At the job.
Certain Coworkers may go thru a series of promotions.
While other don't.
What could be the reason?
Qualifications mostly.
In order to go the next level tackle a different skill.
One must have the know how.
How can one move from doing dishes to spreadsheets if they don't know how to program a spreadsheet for specific calculations.
From the outside looking in it may look like a conspiracy....but in most cases that's not true maybe just maybe the promotion was based on qualifications.
